Speaking at a podcast, the actress said: "There is a temple in my name in Uttarakhand. There is a Urvashi temple located close to Badrinath Temple."
She expressed hope that her fans would build a temple dedicated to her in South India.
The video clip in which she could be seen making the claim has now gone viral online.
Priests criticise her for the remark
Local priest Bhuwan Chandra Uniyal, the former religious officer of Badrinath Dham, told India Today that her remarks were misleading.
The priest said an immediate action should be taken against the actress for making such a claim.
"It is not her temple. Such statements are unacceptable, and the government should take strict steps against anyone making such claims," Uniyal said.
Amit Sati, President of the Brahma Kapal Teerth Purohit Society, told the Indian news channel: "Such statements disrespect the religious sentiments of the people here."
In reality, the temple, which the actress claimed to be built for 'her', is dedicated to Goddess Urvashi. It is located in Bamni.
