A series of thefts under the Srinagar police station area under West Tripura district has sparked growing concern among residents, with another burglary reported from Anandanagar barely two weeks after similar incidents at the Anandanagar Girls’ Hostel and the Anandanagar Ramakrishna Ashram.
Sources said that unidentified miscreants broke into the residence of school teacher Bopesh Debnath in Anandanagar’s word number-5 late on Friday night. The burglars allegedly decamped with around 10 tolas of gold jewellery, two mobile phones, and cash amounting to Rs 10,000.
Local residents alleged that although Srinagar Police initiate investigations after every theft, there has been little progress in recovering the stolen property or arresting responsible thieves. The recurring incidents have prompted residents to question the effectiveness of the police response.
Residents also expressed concern over the area’s night-time security arrangements. They alleged that while women police personnel conduct night patrols, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) and the Second Officer of Srinagar police station reportedly leave for their homes after 10 PM every night, making it difficult to contact senior officers during emergencies.
However, no official response has been issued by Srinagar Police regarding these allegations so far. While, police sources said that they have initiated investigation over the latest burglary and ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
