Prohibitory order section 144 imposed in 21 subdivisions having counting centres
As per the advice of the Election Commission of India (ECI), all the district administration of Tripura has imposed prohibitory order of section-144 in all subdivisions, where counting of polled votes to be held on March 2nd to to prevent any untoward incident and large gathering of people.
As per the order issued by the District Magistrate (DM) of West Tripura district said that “few number of complaints have been received from different corners of the state and the number may increase resulting in a fearful atmosphere among the general public, which is not at all acceptable for healthy democracy and strict vigil needs to be maintained so as the ensure that unscrupulous elements are not able to engage in nefarious activities to breach the peace and tranquillity of the state during pre-counting and post-counting.”
The order also said that there is apprehension of illegal assembly, breach of peace and public tranquillity by anti-social and criminal elements in various areas of the districts, which may disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the state.
Hence, as per the power conferred under section-144 of CrPc, the district magistrates (DMs) of all eight districts pass the order to prohibit any kind of assembly consisting of five or more persons in the areas, where counting of votes to be held on and the order will effect from 6 PM of March 1st to 6 AM of March 3rd next.
While, heavy deployment of security forces has been made across the state to prevent any untoward incident.
