The week-long Sanskrit Week Celebration 2026, organised by the Central Sanskrit University (CSU), Ekalavya Campus, Agartala, concluded on Friday with a grand valedictory session at the campus Multipurpose Hall.
The celebration was aimed at promoting the Sanskrit language and literature, Vedic traditions, Indian Knowledge Systems and the cultural heritage of India among students and the wider community.
A wide range of academic, literary, cultural and traditional Sanskrit competitions were organised during the week. These included Sanskrit Vlog Making, Speech, Essay Writing, Sanskrit Quiz, Akshara Shloka, Samasya-Purti, Sanskrit Song, Sanskrit Drama, Dance, Vedic Recitation, Shrimad Bhagavad Gita Recitation, Amarakosha Recitation, Ashtadhyayi Recitation, Dhatupatha Recitation and Subhashita Recitation.
Students of the Ekalavya Campus, along with students from other educational institutions, participated enthusiastically in the various events.
As part of its outreach programme, the university also collaborated with Army Public School, Agartala, where Sanskrit literary competitions were organised. The initiative provided school students with an opportunity to participate in Sanskrit-oriented literary and creative activities and helped extend the celebration beyond the university campus.
Another major highlight was the Sanskrit Rally held on August 28. Students and members of the campus community participated enthusiastically in the rally, spreading awareness about Sanskrit and highlighting its continuing relevance as a language of knowledge, culture and India's intellectual heritage.
The valedictory session began at 3 pm with Deepa Prajvalanam, followed by the National Song and Kulgeet. Dr Ashish Kumar Mishra, Head of the Veda Department, led the Vedic Mangalacharan. Students presented a welcome song, followed by the welcome address by Prof Sushanta Kumar Raj, Associate Director, Ekalavya Campus.
Dr Chandan Kumar Chakraborty, former Associate Professor of Tripura University, also addressed the gathering. He was felicitated with the honorary title “Sanskrit Gaurav” in recognition of his extensive contribution to the promotion of Sanskrit in the Northeast.
Shri Shashi Kant Pandey, Prant Sangathan Mantri of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, delivered a special address and highlighted the importance of Sanskrit language and Shastras in the modern world.
The event report was presented by Dr Umesh Chandra Mishra, Head of the Department of Vyakarana.
The Chief Guest, Prof Bibhas Deb, Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Bir Bikram University, spoke on the importance of preserving India's classical knowledge traditions while connecting them with contemporary education.
The programme also featured the distribution of prizes among winners of the various competitions. The presidential address was delivered by Prof Gurucharan Singh Negi, Director, Ekalavya Campus, Central Sanskrit University.
The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Dr Uttam Singh, while the programme was anchored by Dr Raghavendra Pathak, Assistant Professor, Department of Sahitya.
The Sanskrit Week Celebration 2026 brought together students, teachers, scholars and participants from different educational institutions. The enthusiastic participation in events such as Sanskrit Quiz, Akshara Shloka, Vedic Recitation, Bhagavad Gita Recitation, Ashtadhyayi, Amarakosha, Sanskrit Drama, Song, Dance and Vlog Making showcased the diverse and dynamic dimensions of Sanskrit.
The participation of students from Army Public School, Agartala and other institutions, along with Ekalavya Campus students, strengthened the university's efforts to disseminate Sanskrit more widely and encourage the younger generation to engage with the language.
The celebration concluded with a renewed commitment to promote Sanskrit as a living language and an important carrier of India's intellectual, literary, cultural and knowledge traditions, while creating greater opportunities for students to connect Sanskrit with contemporary forms of learning and expression.
