A prolonged server outage at the Electricity Department's Division-I and Division-II offices in Dharmanagar, North Tripura along with other parts of the state including in Teliamura, Sekherkot area of West Tripura of Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) , has left hundreds of consumers facing severe inconvenience for nearly a week, with many unable to recharge their prepaid electricity meters.

Men, women, senior citizens and children from distant areas have been forced to stand in long queues for hours in the hope of recharging their prepaid meters. However, due to the server failure, many have returned home empty-handed despite making repeated visits to the offices.

Speaking on the issue, the Manager of the Dharmanagar Electricity Department's Division-II office said the server problem is unlikely to be fully resolved for another four to five days.

The disruption has intensified public hardship amid the prevailing hot weather, as consumers struggle with electricity connectivity and prepaid meter recharge issues. The prolonged outage has also raised questions over accountability, with residents asking whether the Electricity Department or the concerned ministry should be held responsible for the continued inconvenience.

Several consumers alleged that they had been visiting the offices repeatedly over the past two to three days and waiting in queues for hours, but were still unable to deposit money or recharge their prepaid meters due to the server malfunction. They said the technical failure has disrupted their daily lives and caused considerable distress.

Scenes at the electricity office premises reflected the extent of the hardship. Many women consumers were seen spending hours at the office after leaving household chores unfinished, while some passed the time by playing board games such as Ludo as they waited for the server to resume functioning.

Consumers are now hoping that the technical issue will be resolved at the earliest so that normal services can resume and the ongoing inconvenience comes to an end.
