A special programme titled ‘Tech Talk Meet the Scholar’ was organized at Pragya Bhavan in Agartala under the joint initiative of the Tripura Biotechnology Council and the Directorate of Biotechnology.
The programme aimed to further strengthen the activities of College Biotechnology Clubs established in various colleges with financial support from the Biotechnology Department, while also encouraging students to develop an interest in modern and innovative technologies.
Teachers and students from several colleges across the state participated in the programme. With financial assistance from the Directorate of Biotechnology, various colleges in Tripura have already undertaken initiatives involving new technologies and research-based projects. Students are particularly being encouraged to explore the applications of biotechnology in areas such as agriculture, healthcare and the environment. The programme also highlighted plans to bring several more colleges under the biotechnology project in the coming days.
Various research topics were discussed during the event, including the use of biotechnology in tilapia fish farming, maintaining crop quality, identifying the causes of dental decay through molecular analysis of human saliva, developing improved vermicompost, and using engineering technology to prevent riverbank erosion.
During the first session, Dr Badhan Goswami, Professor of Metrix College, and Dr Ujjal Paria Das, Professor of Ramthakur College, spoke about their respective research and projects. They encouraged students to take a greater interest in new technologies and research.
The programme was inaugurated by Science, Technology and Environment Minister Animesh Debbarma. In his address, the Minister stressed the importance of encouraging and supporting young researchers in the field of biotechnology in Tripura.
A book compiling various technologies developed by the College Biotechnology Clubs was also released by the Minister during the programme.
Among those present were Anjan Sengupta, Joint Director of the Biotechnology Department, professors and lecturers from different colleges, officials of the Directorate and Council of Biotechnology, and a large number of students.
A quiz competition was also organised as part of the programme, with attractive prizes presented to the winners.
Overall, the ‘Tech Talk Meet the Scholar’ programme emerged as an important initiative to connect Tripura’s young generation more closely with research, innovation and modern technology, while creating greater awareness of the potential of biotechnology.
