Even as Durga Puja celebrations are in full swing across Tripura, two alleged theft incidents reported on the same night in the Kishoreganj area under Kakraban Police Station in Gomati district have triggered concern among local residents over security arrangements during the festival.
According to local sources, unidentified miscreants allegedly broke into a pump house near the Kishoreganj brick kiln and stole equipment on the night of Maha Saptami. In another incident reported from the same locality, thieves allegedly removed the battery and wheels of an auto-rickshaw belonging to local resident Debashish Bhowmik.
The back-to-back thefts on the same night have created panic among residents, many of whom fear for the safety of their homes and property during the festive season. With families spending long hours visiting Durga Puja pandals, locals say they are increasingly worried about leaving their houses unattended.
Several residents have also expressed concern over the adequacy of police patrolling during the festival, urging the authorities to intensify night patrols and strengthen surveillance in vulnerable areas to deter criminal activities.
Local people have demanded a thorough investigation into both incidents, early identification of those responsible, and strict legal action against the accused. They have also appealed to the police administration to enhance security measures for the remaining days of the Durga Puja festivities so that people can celebrate the festival without fear.
Police are yet to issue an official statement regarding the incidents, and an investigation is expected to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the alleged thefts.
