Acting on a tip-off, police personnel from Kakraban police station of Gomati district conducted a raid in the Hadra–Samatal Para area and detained three suspected drug peddlers allegedly in possession of heroin. A battery-operated auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle were also seized during the operation.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kakraban police station  Gopal Shukla Das told the media that a total of 9.42 grams of Heroin was recovered from the detained youths. The seized vehicles include a battery-operated auto-rickshaw bearing registration number TR-03-D-3656 and a motorcycle bearing registration number TR-03-N-6986.

Three drug peddlers were subsequently brought to Kakraban police station and according to preliminary police information, one of those detained has been identified as Arjan Ali, a battery-operated auto-rickshaw driver and resident of the Samatal-Hadra area. Another has been identified as Alamgir Hossain, a resident of East Palatana. Police said the identity and other details of the third youth would become clearer as the investigation progresses.

SDPO Debanjali Roy visited the spot and later Kakraban police station after receiving information about the drug seizure. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.

However, Arjan Ali’s wife has made allegations contradicting the police claim. She alleged that her husband was falsely implicated and that no drugs were recovered from his possession.

The investigation is therefore focusing on both the police’s seizure claims and the allegations made by the family. Police sources said the detained youths are expected to be produced before a court on Saturday. The evidence and information presented by police before the court, along with the findings of the ongoing investigation, are expected to shed further light on the actual circumstances of the case.
