Three youths were killed and three others sustained serious injuries in a horrific road accident involving two motorcycles near Dasharath Deb Memorial School at Kalacherra area of South Tripura district along the Sabroom–Agartala National Highway on Sunday evening.

Sources said that the tragic accident occurred when two motorcycles collided head-on at heavy speed and  the impact was so severe that the riders were thrown onto the road and suffered critical injuries.

Local residents rushed to the spot, rescued the injured and took them to the Kalacherra Primary Health Centre. However, the attending doctor declared three of them dead upon arrival.

Police have preliminarily identified the deceased as Mukesh Tripura (19), Sani Deol Tripura (18) and Sanjib Tripura (19). Sani Deol Tripura and Sanjib Tripura were reportedly residents of the Garifa area of Rupaicherri block, while Mukesh Tripura was from the Bishnupur area of Sabroom.

Among the injured, one youth has been identified as Prahar Tripura (19). The identities of two other injured young girls are yet to be ascertained. As their condition was reported to be critical, they were referred to Santir Bazar District Hospital for advanced treatment.

On receiving information about the accident, police reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities are examining the circumstances that led to the head-on collision between the two motorcycles.

The news of the accident triggered grief across the Satchand and Kalacherra areas of Sabroom. The atmosphere at the Kalacherra health centre turned grave as relatives and family members gathered following the deaths. The bereaved families were left devastated by the loss of their loved young ones.

Police sources said that reckless and without helmet riding of motorbikes at heavy speed , may be the primary reason of the fatal road accident and police investigation into the exact cause of the accident is still underway.
