Tripura's Information Technology Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Friday said that since assuming office in 2018, the state government has placed digital governance, transparency, entrepreneurship and employment generation at the core of its development agenda, with a strong focus on building a technology-driven economy.
Participating in a discussion on a private member's resolution during the second day of Monsoon Session of the Tripura Assembly on Friday, the minister said the state has embraced the vision of Digital India to transform governance, improve public service delivery and create new opportunities for the youth.
The private member's resolution, moved by MLA Tafajjal Hossain, urged the government to take additional measures to strengthen the information technology ecosystem and promote startups to generate employment and build an IT-driven economy in the state. The resolution was adopted unanimously by the House.
Singha Roy said the state government launched the IT/ITeS and Startup Policy, 2019 to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and investment in the technology sector. Under the policy, around 26 startups have received official recognition and financial assistance exceeding Rs 1 crore, creating employment opportunities for nearly 130 people.
The minister also highlighted significant improvements in the state's digital infrastructure. The capacity of the State Data Centre has been expanded from about 80 servers and 130 TB of storage before 2018 to more than 200 TB, while nearly 200 government applications and websites are currently being operated through the digital platform.
Emphasizing the government's commitment to digital governance, Singha Roy said an integrated e-Office system has now been established from the state headquarters to the Panchayat level. More than three lakh e-files have been created and over 75 lakh electronic file transactions have been processed through the system, ensuring greater efficiency and transparency in government administration.
The minister said the government's objective is to create an ecosystem where the youth of Tripura can access quality employment opportunities within the state instead of seeking jobs elsewhere. He added that the government is encouraging skill development in emerging sectors such as software development, artificial intelligence, data science, cyber security, game development, digital content creation, cloud computing, data centres, healthcare technology and startup entrepreneurship.
