Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Monday said the outcome of the Village Committee (VC) elections was in line with the expectations of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and reflected the vision of building a "new Tripura" through unity among all sections of society.
Commenting on the results declared on Monday, Dr Saha said the NDA had been confident of putting up a strong performance in the elections held across the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
"We had anticipated this outcome. Earlier too, we had said that the NDA would perform well in the Village Committee elections, and the results are unfolding accordingly," the Chief Minister said.
Expressing optimism over the state's future, Dr Saha said the mandate would strengthen efforts to promote inclusive development by bringing together people from different communities.
"I believe Tripura has a bright future ahead. Our goal is to build a new Tripura by uniting everyone — tribal communities, Manipuris, minorities and all other sections of society," he said.
Dr Saha added that the objective was in keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for the state and said the VC election results offered a glimpse of that larger goal.
"I see these results as an indication of that vision becoming a reality," he said.
The Village Committee elections, conducted across the TTAADC areas, are being viewed as an important political test ahead of the next electoral cycle, offering an indication of the relative strength of parties and alliances in the tribal regions of the state.
