Two Bangla bike lifters arrested with stolen motorcycle

In a prompt action, the Agartala city police in association with BSF has managed to arrest two Bangladesh motorbike lifters and recovered a stolen bike within 16 to 20 hours of the incident.

Giving details of the successful operation of the city police, newly joined SDPO (Sadar) Debaprasad Roy and officer-in-charge (OC) of West Agartala police station, Jayanta Kumar Dey said that on May 20th last, a motorcycle has been stolen from Harijan Colony of Ramnagar and the victim bike owner immediately informed the matter to police.

After receiving the information, the OC West PS along with OC of Battala town outpost informed all details to the authorities of Border Outposts (BOPs) of Motinagar, Kamthana, Konabon and Madhupur and subsequently, the BSF jawans posted in these areas has also strengthen their surveillance in the entire stretch of the Indo-Bangla border adjoining to Agartala, said Debaprasad Roy.

He said that during mobile patrolling within 16 to 20 hours of the lifting incident, a joint team of police and BSF managed to detain two suspected Bangladeshi motorbike lifters and had also recovered the stolen motorbike under their possession.

He said that after preliminary interrogation of two arrested motorbike lifters of Bangladesh, the investigation team found that a gang of bike lifters with active participation of few known bike lifters of Agartala city were involved with many stolen incidents. Now, bike lifter gang members are using miscreants from Bangladesh for transportation of motorbikes up to India-Bangladesh border, said Roy and added that soon they will be able to arrest other gang members of bike lifters.

OC Jayanta Kumar Dey said that arrested two bike lifters were identified as Mohammad Junu  Miah of Kalikapur area of Akhaura in Bangladesh and Kalam Miah of Akhaura area of Bramanbaria district of Bangladesh. They will be produced before a local court with police remand appeals for further interrogation to unearth the nexus of Indo-Bangla motorbike lifters.
