Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers presented ‘Uttam – The Mahanayak’, a special exhibition commemorating the birth centenary of Bengali cinema’s greatest actor, Uttam Kumar, at the Jamini Roy Gallery of ICCR in Kolkata.

The exhibition showcased a rare collection of memorabilia from the life and times of the legendary actor, including film posters, publicity materials, still photographs from his landmark movies, pictures with celebrated co-stars and eminent personalities of the film industry, gramophone record covers and other displays reflecting the larger-than-life persona of the ‘Mahanayak’.

The exhibition offered visitors a nostalgic journey through the golden era of Bengali cinema and celebrated the enduring legacy and timeless charm of Uttam Kumar, whose performances continue to inspire generations of film lovers.

The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of several eminent personalities and a large gathering of Uttam Kumar admirers.

The programme began with the release of a set of ‘Uttam Kumar Picture Postcards’, which was unveiled by actress Debashree Roy, Mahua Chattopadhyay, daughter-in-law of Uttam Kumar, and Rupak Saha, Director of Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers.

Speaking on the occasion, actress Debashree Roy said, “I never got an opportunity to work with Uttam Kumar, but I was fortunate to have interacted with him and experienced the aura of the Mahanayak. I thank Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers for making me a part of this fond remembrance of a great actor who lived every role he played and was known for his unique style.”

Mahua Chattopadhyay recalled her association with the legendary actor, saying, “I was fortunate to have him as my father-in-law. Being a part of his family, I experienced his real-life presence, which was as special as his screen image and the place he holds in the hearts of millions of fans.”
