Zero tolerance against drug abuse: CM Dr Manik  Saha

The state and central Government has adopted Zero tolerance policy to against drug abuse. The Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said the same in the Assembly while giving an answer to a notice given by MLA Brishaketu Debbarma and added that a 10 bedded drug de-addiction centre has started in the Psychiatric Hospital at Narsingarh. He further said that a Addiction clinic  OPD has started in the hospital while free medicines are also given as well.

The state government is also looking after the fact that this kind of services can be started quickly in other districts as well. There are various awareness programmes on ill effects of drugs are being organised in Schools and Colleges. Some training programmes and workshops are being organised on anti- addiction for the doctors, nurse, community health organisers and Paramedical staffs as well.

The Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha further said that various anti drug raids are being conducted regularly and the accused are being arrested as well. While the attention of Central government has already been so that a branch of Narcotics Control Bureau is established in the state while various raids take place to destroy the Cannabis plants and a total of 3,65,00,381 Cannabis seedlings have been destroyed in the last three years. There is a proposal under consideration to buy a full body scanner which will scan the vehicles carrying intoxicated stuffs and recover the same.

The Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha said that a total of 7 courses have been conducted at Police training academy so that skill enhancement can be done in investigation of NDPS cases and it has been jointly assisted by National Institute of Social Defence and Narcotics Control Bureau during the last 2 years. The parents of youths who are addicted to different intoxicated stuffs are being encouraged to send their children to different anti- drug centres. Lastly he said that there are six trained snipper dogs being used in the anti-drug raids and more dogs might be bought in future. He  hoped that this steps will make sure that a drug free Tripura is formed.
