Germany to provide Ukraine with $3 billion weapons package, its largest since Russia's invasion last year
Berlin/IBNS: Germany is reportedly set to provide Ukraine with its largest weapons package since Russia's invasion last year, valued at 2.7 billion euros ($3 billion).
The package will include 30 additional Leopard-1 tanks, Marder armoured vehicles, air-defence systems, and surveillance drones, according to the defence ministry, reported AFP.
"We all hope for a rapid end to this terrible war by Russia against the Ukrainian people, but unfortunately this is not in sight," Germany Defence Minister Boris Pistorius stated.
"This is why Germany will supply all the help that it can, for as long as necessary," he added further.
German officials have stated their willingness to help Ukraine for as long as necessary, with Defence Minister Boris Pistorius stating that an end to the war with Russia is not yet in sight.
The announcement comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to hold talks with political leaders in Rome and Berlin.
While Western allies have supplied increasingly powerful weapons to Kyiv, advanced fighter jets have yet to be provided, despite requests from Zelensky.
