Horror in Bangladesh: Hindu widow allegedly gangraped, tied to tree and brutally tortured in Jhenaidah
A Hindu widow was allegedly gang-raped by two men in Bangladesh’s Jhenaidah district, media reports said, in what is being described as yet another incident of violence against the minority community in the South Asian nation.
According to reports, the accused tied the woman’s hands to a tree and forcibly cut her hair before assaulting her.
In her police complaint, the survivor stated that around two-and-a-half years ago she had purchased three decimals of land along with a two-storey house for 2 million taka from a man identified as Shahin and his brother in Ward No. 7 of Kaliganj municipality, NDTV reported.
She alleged that Shahin repeatedly made indecent proposals and harassed her after she rejected his advances.
On Saturday, Shahin and his associate Hasan allegedly forced their way into her home and gang-raped her. The accused also reportedly demanded 50,000 taka from her.
The woman said she lost consciousness following the assault due to severe physical and mental trauma. Local residents later rescued her and rushed her to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital for treatment.
The survivor has since filed a formal complaint against the two suspects at the Kaliganj Police Station.
Confirming the development, Jhenaidah Additional Superintendent of Police Billal Hossain told NDTV: “We have called the survivor to the police station and recorded her complaint. After investigation, the police will take the highest possible legal action.”
