'Lured, beaten, poisoned': Another Hindu youth brutally murdered in Bangladesh
Dhaka/IBNS: Violence against religious minorities in Bangladesh has claimed another life. A Hindu man identified as Joy Mahapatro was killed on Thursday in Sunamganj district, according to his family.
Relatives allege that Mahapatro was brutally beaten and poisoned by a local resident before being rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
Mahapatro later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit.

Police officials said further details of the incident are awaited as the investigation continues.
Recent cases highlight growing pattern
Mahapatro’s death comes just days after another disturbing incident involving a young Hindu man.
A 25-year-old, identified as Mithun Sarkar from Bhandarpur village, reportedly jumped into a canal while trying to escape a mob that was chasing him on suspicion of theft.
His body was recovered by police on Tuesday afternoon.
The back-to-back incidents have intensified fears within Bangladesh’s Hindu community, which has witnessed a surge in targeted violence in recent months.
Rising attacks ahead of elections
Human rights observers say the killings are not isolated events but point to a broader pattern of growing intolerance and insecurity.
Bangladesh is preparing for its first parliamentary elections since the 2024 uprising that led to the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government.
Experts warn that the current political uncertainty has contributed to a breakdown in law and order, leaving vulnerable communities exposed to mob violence and targeted attacks.
Arrest in lynching of Dipu Das
In a related development, Bangladesh police on Thursday arrested the prime suspect accused of orchestrating the lynching of Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu garment worker who was killed last month over alleged blasphemy.
Officials identified the accused as Yasin Arafat, a former teacher believed to have played a central role in planning and carrying out the attack.

Dipu, 27, was killed on December 18 in Mymensingh district.
According to investigators, he was first forced to resign from his job by factory supervisors before being dragged out of his workplace and handed over to an angry mob.
The crowd reportedly beat him to death, hanged his body from a tree, and then set it on fire.
Authorities revealed that several of Dipu’s colleagues also participated in the assault.
Calls for accountability
Rights groups have demanded swift justice and stronger protection for minorities, warning that continued impunity could further embolden attackers.
With elections approaching, pressure is mounting on the interim administration to restore order and ensure the safety of all citizens, regardless of religious identity.
