More than 2 million Pakistanis' data hacked from restaurant database, now up for sale

By IBNS
Sep 21, 2023..

In a shocking revelation, data of over 2 million Pakistani citizens has been compromised and put up for sale online after some hackers gained access to a private company-made database used by hundreds of restaurants, media reports said.

According to reports, hackers have even displayed data of some citizens as samples in advertisements for online sales.

"We have hacked the databases of over 250 restaurants," the hackers claimed as quoted by Geo News while naming dozens of food outlets.

The compromised data reportedly include the contact numbers and credit card details of people.

The software, which has been hacked, is used by several restaurants in Pakistan.

The details, including the number of times and the amount a citizen has paid, are available online for purchase, reports Geo News.

The data of citizens is being offered for 2 Bitcoins, which make up to $54,000 as one Bitcoin is worth $27,000 as per the market sources, the Pakistani news channel reported.

The Federal Investigation Agency's (FBR) cybercrime circle, however, said no complaint over the issue has been received so far.
