Newfoundland and Labrador families receive $10 per day for childcare
Clarenville/ IBNS: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, Andrew Furey, jointly announced that N&L families are now benefitting from $10-a-day regulated childcare, and are now saving an estimated $6,300 per year for each child in care, a news release has said.
The opening of the first pre-kindergarten centres in the province was also announced by Newfoundland and Labrador.
With federal funding support, these pre-kindergarten centres will facilitate access to high-quality, affordable, flexible, and inclusive early learning and child care for more children and families across the province.
This announcement was made less than two years after an agreement was reached with the governments of Canada and N&L to support an average of $10 per day for childcare in the province.
The federal government’s plan of delivering $10-a-day regulated childcare across the country with a wide range of other support programs, including the Canada Child Benefit has helped lift hundreds of thousands of children out of poverty and make life more affordable.
