Pak Army general sparks fury! Viral wink at female journalist while mocking Imran Khan sets internet ablaze
Islamabad/IBNS: Pakistan’s military spokesperson, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, has triggered widespread outrage after he was seen winking at a female journalist during a press conference, media reports said.
In a video that has since gone viral, journalist Absa Komal questioned the Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) about the army’s allegations against jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan — including charges of being a “national security threat,” “anti-state,” and “acting at the hands of Delhi.”
Komal asked: “How is it different from the past? Should we expect any development?”
Responding to her, Chaudhry said: “Add a fourth point which you are missing — he is also a zehni mareez (mental patient).”

The controversy intensified after Chaudhry ended his remark with a wink and a smile, as seen in the widely circulated clip. The video has not been independently verified by IBNS.
The gesture has drawn strong criticism on social media, with users calling it inappropriate and unprofessional, especially in the context of a sensitive political discussion.
Reactions
The video has drawn sharp reactions on X where a user says, "Imagine if an Indian Army general would have done this that too in a press conference or be it any other country then all hell would have broken loose. BUT in Pakistan I guess this is how press conferences are done."
Another user said, "Who will censure him when the ones' in control are themselves such loose characters!"
A user in the name of The Diplomatic Slogger said, "Governments in both India and Pakistan are bad but one thing that reliefs me is that our forces are in complete control of government. Misery of Pakistan is that none of its elected reprenstative till now has completed a full stint(5 years). Relations will never improve among us."
Another user adds, "This shows how unprofessional their army is. How can someone in uniform wink like this publicly."
What’s confirmed: where he stands now
- Imran Khan remains incarcerated at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, where he has been held since August 2023 on multiple charges including corruption and state-security allegations.
- Jail authorities say he is “in good health” and under medical supervision.
- His family — particularly his sister — recently confirmed after a rare visit that while he is physically fine, his isolation and solitary-confinement conditions are causing significant psychological strain.
