Pakistan: Kohat residents demonstrate against power outage
Hundreds of Peshawar Electric Supply Company consumers from Kalu Khan and Ambar Banda areas in Pakistan recently blocked the Peshawar Bypass Road to protest against the suspension of power supply for the third consecutive day on Friday.
According to reports, locals are facing trouble due to the suspension of power supply.
The protesters also lamented that genuine consumers were sent inflated bills to make for the electricity theft due to inefficiency of the Pesco staff. They demanded that the bills should be rationalised to enable the consumers to pay them, reported Dawn News.
The protesters were led by councillors Waheed ur Rehman, Imran Khan, Haji Khanan and Saifur Rehman.
They also met the Pesco executive engineer and demanded the restoration of the power supply.
Chanting slogans against the Pesco XEN, the protesters said prolonged power suspension had caused acute water shortage in houses and mosques, the Pakistani newspaper reported.
Councillor Waheed asked Pesco to identify the culprits and punish them instead of ‘penalising’ the whole areas.
