Pilgrimage turns fatal: 7 Indians dead after vehicle falls into gorge in Nepal
At least seven Indian pilgrims died after the vehicle in which they were travelling veered off the road and plunged into a gorge in Gorkha district of Nepal, media reports said.
According to Bharat Bahadur BK, the victims have been identified as Muthu Kumar (58), Anamalik (58), Meenakshi (59), Sivagami (53), Vijayal (57), Meena (58) and Tamilarsi (60), all from India, reported The Himalayan Times.
All of them died on the spot.
Local police told the newspaper that the vehicle was carrying 16 people.
They were returning from Manakamana Temple when the mishap occurred.
Seven passengers are currently undergoing treatment at Chitwan Medical College.
According to reports, they have been identified as Soranam (62), Mangada Jalam (65), Subhadra (75), Mayal (65), Saroja (73), Bhagyalakshmi (75) and Meenakshi (34).
The driver of the vehicle remained unharmed. His assistant was slightly hurt.
An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
Road accidents are common in Nepal due to the challenging terrain.
Much of the Himalayan nation is connected by narrow roads.
