Roof collapse in Lebanon leaves four Syrian refugee children killed
Four Syrian refugee children were killed late Friday night after the roof of their house collapsed due to heavy rain in the northern Lebanese town of Miziara, the National News Agency reported Saturday.
Civil defense personnel have recovered the bodies of two children from the rubble of the Syrian refugee family's house, located on a hilltop, and are working on the excavation of the other two bodies.
Lebanon, which currently hosts around 2 million Syrian refugees, remains the country hosting the largest number of refugees per capita, according to government data.
Despite living in dire conditions amid the current economic crisis in Lebanon, Syrian refugees refuse to return to their home country to avoid legal prosecutions there.
Lebanon has been facing an unprecedented economic crisis, plunging over 80 percent of the population into poverty.
