Taiwan detects 33 Chinese military aircraft, six navy ships around nation
Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence on Saturday said 33 military aircraft and six naval vessels from China were detected between 6 a.m. Friday and Saturday around the nation.
"33 PLA aircraft and 6 PLAN vessels around Taiwan were detected until 06:00 (UTC+8) today. 13 of the aircraft crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered Taiwan’s SW, North ADIZ. #ROCArmedForces have monitored the situation and tasked appropriate forces to respond," the Ministry posted on X.
Taiwan has been governed independently from mainland China since 1949. Beijing views the island as its province, while Taiwan — a territory with its own elected government — maintains that it is an autonomous country, but stops short of declaring independence.
Beijing opposes any official contacts of foreign states with Taipei and considers Chinese sovereignty over the island indisputable.
