India's Covid-19 tally inches closer to 3,000, Kerala worst-hit

New Delhi/IBNS: The tally of fresh Covid-19 cases have spiked to almost 3,000 with the southern state of Kerala adding the highest number of infections.
As per the latest report, the total number of cases in India rose to 2,710 till Saturday.
Kerala has reported 1,147 cases followed by Maharashtra (424), Delhi (294) and Gujarat (223).
Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, two other south Indian states, have added 148 cases while West Bengal reported 116 infections.
Seven fresh deaths related to Covid-19 have been reported in the past 24 hours.
Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka, Punjab and Tamil Nadu have reported one death each in the last 24 hours while two lives have been lost in Maharashtra in the same span of time.
As per reports, all people who died except for the one in Punjab were senior citizens.
The most common Covid-19 variant found in India is JN.1 (53 percent of samples tested) followed by BA.2 (26 percent) and Omicron sublineages (20 percent).
