Anti-drug operations continue, 34 NDPS act cases, 42 smugglers arrested in a month, police

Highlighting the police initiatives to improve the law-and-order situation, the AIGP said that the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha had attended the law-and-order review meetings with SPs, SDPOs, and OCs at Pragna Bhavan and stressed upon the importance of ensuring the rule of law.

Agartala: In continuation of its drive against drug menaces and its trafficking, the state police in a significant development have registered 34 NDPS Act cases and arrested 42 persons within the span of last one month.

Addressing a press conference at police headquarters on Monday evening to highlight the achievements of state police, AIGP (Police Control) Jyotishman Das Chowdhury said that in continuation of special anti-narcotic drives across the state and during past one month, the state police has seized 8359 kilograms of dry cannabis, 454.3 grams of Heroin, 1062 bottles of contraband cough syrup and 34,665 Yaba tablets.

He said that during the special drive approximately 4, 80,000 marijuana plants were destroyed and in connection 34 NDPS Act cases have been registered across the state and a total of 42 persons have also been arrested. Das Chowdhury added that a special drive will be continued and will also be intensified in the coming days to ensure drug –free Tripura.

In heinous case such as murder, crime against women etc accused persons have been arrested immediately after the commission of the crime. During last one month, a total of 7 accused persons were arrested in connection with their involvement in murder cases and 33 persons were arrested in crime against women related cases.

Highlighting the police initiatives to improve the law-and-order situation, the AIGP said that the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha had attended the law-and-order review meetings with SPs, SDPOs, and OCs at Pragna Bhavan and stressed upon the importance of ensuring the rule of law.

The two days conference of DGPs, IGPs and CPOs of Northeastern states was held at Pragna Bhavan on November 27 last after a long gap and Das Chowdhury said that conference ended on a positive note with the hope of developing better coordination, cooperation and communication between the NE states for combating various crime like drug trafficking, human trafficking, infiltration and other border related issues.

He said that general sense of security among the common people has improved and crime figures under major headings like dacoity, robbery, burglary, murder etc have shown a significant reduction and a marked decline like murder, rape, dowry death etc, which is a matter of satisfaction.

Das Chowdhury also said that due to sincere efforts made by the state police, property crimes have drastically decreased and during the last one month, police have arrested over 24 property offenders in the state and recovered stolen properties. (OVER)
