Leaders of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) West Tripura district committee on Tuesday submitted a deputation to the Director General of Police (DGP), demanding an immediate investigation and strict legal action against individuals allegedly collecting money illegally in the name of the organization.
According to the complaint, certain individuals have allegedly been misusing the name and logo of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh to collect unauthorized money from e-rickshaw, auto-rickshaw, and bus-jeep drivers in several parts of Agartala, including Nagerjala, Melarmath, ISBT Chandrapur, and Reshambagan.
The complaint further stated that the state unit of BMS had formally dissolved the committee of the Tripura Electronic Rickshaw Workers’ Union on December 8 last year. Similarly, the committee of the West Tripura Auto Rickshaw Mazdoor Sangh had also been dissolved. In such a situation, the union leaders questioned who continues to collect money from drivers in the name of BMS despite the dissolution of the concerned committees.
The BMS leaders alleged that these activities are tarnishing the reputation and credibility of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, while also creating resentment among transport workers and negatively affecting the image of the government within the labour community in Agartala.
They further claimed that poor drivers are being misled, harassed, and forced to pay money in the name of a reputed trade union, and demanded strict action against those involved in the alleged illegal collection racket.
