CM, deputy CM inaugurates much ambitious Science City project

The much-awaited Science City project at Nimbagh area of Agartala started its journey on Wednesday after being formally inaugurated by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha and deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma.

While speaking in the inauguration programme at Projeny orchard , the Chief Minister said that science is the primary step for progress and everyone should adopt the science for progress in life.

He said that the ambitious Science City will be a bigger step to understand the science  and the project has been constructed as per the guidelines framed by the National Council of Science Museum (NCSM) in 12.84 acre land with cost of Rs. 67.38 crore.

Mentioning the progress of Israel through science, which has a population of only 93 lakh, Dr Saha said that now Israel due to scientific approach is the leading country of the world for their sophisticated machinery and modern infrastructures. Since the first day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he continues his endavour to progress the nation by properly using science and technology and now the country is moving towards digital India.

He said that due to the ‘Act East policy’   of the Prime Minister, Tripura along with other states of the Northeast region are progressing rapidly  and Tripura has been connected with a broad gauge railway network, high-speed internet, improved surface communication and with a modern international airport. He hoped under the direction of the Prime Minister, Tripura would also move towards ultimate progress.

Speaking in the programme, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma said that the previous government had left the construction work of the building by completing its 30% works and after much effort, the Science and Technology department has resumed construction after receiving funds from the Ministry of Culture for the remaining construction works.

It may be recalled here that this Science City has six exhibition halls, 2 seminar halls, one planetarium , one 3D hall, one children activity hall, Science For Fun and a range of exhibits showcasing the implication of science for daily use.

Addressing the inauguration programme, the director general  of NCSM Arijit Datta Chowdhury  said the project has been designed to encourage students towards science and add an element of learning with experience that is not possible in limited school or college infrastructure.

During the programme Jail Minister Ram Prasad Paul, local MLA Mimi Majumder, principal secretary of Science and Technology department K S Sethi and director Animesh Das were also present.
