On Saturday morning hundreds of Congress workers and leaders led by Pradesh Congress president and MLA Birajit Sinha gathered in front of Congress Bhavan and organized a rally towards Circuit House area of the city to organize their mass movement of Jai Bharat Satyagraha’ and civil disobedience. But, when the rally reached near Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, a large number of police and security forces barricaded them and stopped the rally.

After a brief scuffle with security forces, arrested all agitators including their leaders and put them in AD Nagar police ground. Police said that altogether 137 agitators were arrested and all of them were also released in the evening.

While, during the agitation speaking with media persons PCC president Birajit Sinha that the Congress Party has launched the  ‘Jai Bharat Satyagraha’ across the country to protest against the disqualification of party leader Rahul Gandhi from the Lok Sabha and to press for its demand for a probe into allegations of fraud against the Adani Group.

The Jai Bharat Satyagraha is a protest against the erroneous conviction and disqualification of Rahul Gandhi, and to express the party’s strong protest against the blatant looting of people’s money and nation’s wealth, said Sinha.

He said that police forces stopped the peaceful and democratic civil disobedience movement and arrested them, but Congress will continue their agitation against disqualification of Rahul Gandhi across the state.

As part of the protest programme, all block units of the Congress will hold demonstrations  exposing the suffering of common people, said Sinha.

Speaking with media persons senior party leader and former MLA Ashish Kumar Saha that party has also stressed on social media campaigns focusing on Rahul Gandhi’s message to the people, which  will also be carried out to appeal for public support for the ‘Satyagraha’.

Over the continuous post-poll violence across the state after the March 2nd assembly poll results , the party has also decided to organize statewide movements against violent politics of ruling BJP.

He said that the Pradesh Congress will also organize district wise demonstrations or ‘Satyagraha’ and civil disobedience movements in district towns  against post-poll violence.

Saha alleged that  soon after the announcement of poll results, the ruling BJP , which has managed to get a majority in the assembly with only 39% of vote share, has unleashed a reign of terror and violence across the state. Till date, thousands Congress workers were physically assaulted and their properties were ransacked or burnt into ashes.

“Our leaders' voices were suppressed inside the assembly by the treasury bench, but we are continuously urging the Chief Minister to take concrete steps to stop violence against opposition supporters, whereas the majority of people’s mandate of 61% vote share remained with opposition parties,”, said Saha.

He added that Congress will strengthen their movement against violence politics of the ruling party and will also submit deputations before all district authorities during their movements.
