Along with the entire nation, Tripura Pradesh Congress on Monday also remembered former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 38th death anniversary across the state, but during the observance of the day clashes erupted among the supporters of ruling BJP and Congress.

Congress leaders and workers including former Chief Minister Samir Ranjan Barman, former PCC president Gopal Roy and senior leader Ashish Kumar Saha in Agartala paid floral tributes before a portrait of Indira Gandhi in front of Congress Bhavan on Monday morning and have also paid floral tributes at the Gandhi Ghat memorial place.

Congress also observed the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhai Patel in Congress Bhavan and in all districts of the state, where leaders of the party paid their floral tributes before the portraits of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Indira Gandhi.

Reports said that when Congress workers observed the anniversary of the former prime Minister, a group of miscreants attacked different venues, ransacked and physically assaulted a few Congress workers.

The Congress workers in 14-Badharghat assembly constituency have prepared for mass food distribution on Monday morning to mark the days and they prepared all food items and stored them in their party office. When Congress workers on Monday morning arrived at the spot to start cooking, they found all of the raw food items were stolen away and the entire spot had been ransacked by unknown miscreants.

In two other incidents, in GB Bazar and Indranagar Kali Bari areas under 6-Agartala assembly constituency, a group of miscreants attacked and ransacked all Congress decorations to observe the death anniversary of Indira Gandhi. When Congress started distribution of food items at GB Bazar area, a motorbike laden group arrived at the spots and started beating Congress workers.

Then miscreants arrived at Indranagar Kali Bari area and had also ransacked party decorations and physically assaulted some old Congress supporters. Protesting both incidents, Congress workers blockaded that main road for hours.

Later, police arrived at the spot and assured that they will take legal action against accused persons, then agitated Congress workers withdrew their road blockade programme.

Congress leaders alleged that miscreants owing allegiance with ruling BJP attacks in both places and when they were committing attacks, police personnel were present in the GB Bazar incident and became silent spectators.
