CPI (M) stage demonstration in front of PHQ for save return displaced families

Opposition CPI (M) on Friday staged a demonstration in front of police headquarters demanding the return of 31 families of opposition supporters, who were forced to escape from their respective houses from Gurkhabasti and Swami Vivekananda residential areas due to post poll violence.

On Friday morning, hundreds of CPI(M) workers and leaders gheraoed the police headquarters demanding immediate police intervention to return back of all 31 families from Gurkhabasti and Swami Vivekananda residential areas under NCC police station, who were forced to escaped from their respective houses by miscreants owing allegiance with ruling BJP.

Later, a delegation of party leaders submitted a memorandum before the police requesting them to take positive steps for the peaceful living of opposition supporters.

Speaking with media persons, CPI(M) Sadar sub divisional secretary Subasish Ganguly said that soon after announcement of poll results, 16 opposition families from Gurkhabasti and 15 more families from Swami Vivekananda residential area were forced vacate their houses due to large-scale of violence including physical attacks on them by the ruling party supporters.

CPI(M) state secretary and MLA Jitendra Chowdhury had also recently wrote a letter to the Chief Secretary of the state to take steps to ensure the returning of all victim families into their respective houses, said Ganguly and added that till date neither the police or the administration take any steps to for their protection and safe return.

He said that despite assurance from Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha that no violent activities would be tolerated, but in reality after the passing of three months many opposition supporters with their family members are still living in secret places due to intimidation by miscreants of the ruling party.

He urged the police and state administration to ensure the democratic rights of all people of the state and steps to return all opposition families into their respective houses.
