CPI(M) urges ECI for immediate removal of SDPO(Bishalgarh)

Opposition CPI(M) demanding free and fair elections urges the Election Commission of India (ECI) for immediate removal of SDPO (Bishalgarh) Rahul Das from the post and prosecute him for a partisan role in favour of mischief-mongers.

CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury in a letter to the ECI, CEO, Tripura and DGP enclosed a news-cutting on Sunday’s edition of ‘Pratibadi Kalam’ of Agartala stating that, Rahul Das, SDPO, Bishalgarh  PS  has been served notice on the basis of court direction for intentionally and illegally putting soft section in an FIR to exonerate the criminals from the case. The News also stated that, Rahul Das is bosom friend of son of Jishnu Debbarman, Deputy Chief Minister of the state.

“You may be aware that  in a letter on 30th January, 2023, addressed to the CEO with a copy to you,  I requested to take Departmental proceedings against three police officials of Sepahijala district, Tripura for their nexus with ruling BJP to help the assassins of Sahid Miah get bail from the murder case,” said Chowdhury and added that among the officials he mentioned therein, Rahul Das is one of them. ‘Though your office has acknowledged my letter I am not aware whether any effective measure has been taken against Sri Das as yet’, said Chowdhury.

He also said that since his posting in Bishalgarh police station, Rahul Das SDPO had converted the police station into a den of the BJP terror-mongers. Any complaint naming the known BJP followers as accused are either not given cognizance or treated lightly with soft section so that the accused persons are acquitted. “The ECI may find it hard to believe that the CPI(M) office in Bishalgarh, about 300 yards away from the PS was attacked, set on fire 7 to 8 time during the last 5 years. In 2-3 cases, there was videography of the action carried on by the miscreants. But not a single culprit was ever arrested till now,” said Chowdhury.

If such a totally partisan and biased police officer is assigned to command the law and order situation of an important police station like Bishalgarh, we are worried to think, what would be the fate of your “Mission Zero poll violence’ and ‘Level Playing Field’ for all stakeholders in the election , said Chowdhury and demanded that under the circumstances, he demanded immediately removal Rahul Das and ask the DGP to draw proceedings against his blatantly partisan role in favour of the ruling BJP maligning the dignity of the entire police force. This is important for protecting the sanctity of democracy which is mainly exercised through election, said Chowdhury.
