Education Minister appeals to retrenched teachers to end hunger strike

On the 17th day of the “fast unto death” programme by a section of retrenched 10,323 teachers, the Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Saturday appealed to them to withdraw their hunger strike as the government trying to give them some relief to maintain their livelihood.

Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath addressing a press conference here at Civil Secretariat on Saturday evening to highlight offer of appointments of the department and fresh releases, said that he had a discussion with the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha over the hunger strike of retrenched teachers and CM asked him to make an appeal towards the agitated teachers to withdraw their hunger strike .

Nath said that government humanitarian grounds are contemplating plans to give them relief and by December end, thousands more offers of appointments to be released.

"The present government does not believe in movements, but releasing offer after offer of appointment through legal process," said Nath and once again appeals to agitated teachers to withdraw their hunger strike.

Nath also said that the Education department has issued offers of appointment to 31 assistant professors for general degree colleges and 9 for Government Law College. He added that the government has issued postings to 453 teachers under the primary education department that include 248 graduate teachers, under graduate teacher 196, LDC 4 and Group D five.
