Food Minister inaugurates newly built 500 MT capacity warehouse in Srinagar

The government has given priority to make the public distribution system reach the last person of the society and make it easier for people to get goods. So the public distribution system is being strengthened in the state. For this purpose, food warehouse construction is being done in different parts of the state, said Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury  while inaugurating a newly constructed 500 metric ton capacity food warehouse in  Srinagar  of Sabroom on Monday.

 At the programme, the Food Minister also said that various steps have been taken by the Central and State Governments to ensure that the people of the state can get the goods at the right time through public distribution system. He said, there are 8 fair price shops in Srinagar area. The department has to ensure that the consumers of these fair price shops get proper service. 92 lakh rupees have been spent on the construction of this food warehouse.

MLA Mailaifru Mog, former MLA Shankar Roy, Member of South Tripura Zilla Parishad Shankar Bhowmik, District Magistrate of South Tripura District Dhanbabu Reang, Director of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department, Animesh Debbarma and others spoke on the occasion. Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Sabroom Sub-Division Bidhan Chandra Roy gave the welcome speech. Chairman of Poangbari Panchayat Samiti Manimala Baidya presided over the programme.

On his visit to Sabroom, the Food Minister held a review meeting with the officials of the department of Belonia, Santirbazar and Sabroom sub-divisions. In the meeting, issues such as purchase of paddy from farmers at subsidized price, storage of food, increased surveillance in markets etc. were discussed. In the meeting, he laid emphasis on opening a paddy purchasing centre for the convenience of the farmers of Manu bankul. He also urged the officials to make efforts so that people can get various government facilities easily.

MLA Mailaifru Mog, MLA Swapna Majumder, Chairperson of Sabroom Nagar Panchayat Swapna Poddar Dey, former MLA Shankar Roy, District Magistrate Dhanbabu Riang, Director of Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department Animesh Debbarma and others were present in the meeting.
