IMD forecasts hot and humid conditions across Tripura for next 3 days
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Agartala has forecast hot and humid weather conditions across Tripura over the next three days, driven by strong solar radiation and moisture incursion at lower atmospheric levels.
According to a press release issued by the IMD in Agartala on Friday said that the day temperatures in several parts of the state are likely to reach 36 degrees Celsius or above, which is 2–4 degrees Celsius temperature higher than normal.
In the past 24 hours, the maximum temperature recorded in the state was 36.4 degrees Celsius, about 3.1 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average of 33.3 degrees Celsius. Relative humidity levels have also remained above normal, intensifying discomfort levels.
The IMD has warned that such conditions could lead to a range of adverse impacts, including heat-related illnesses such as heatstroke, cramps, and exhaustion. Vulnerable groups—particularly children, the elderly, and individuals with pre-existing health conditions—face heightened risks of cardiovascular and respiratory complications.
IMD in its press statement also said that the weather may also affect daily life and economic activities. Outdoor labour productivity is expected to decline due to excessive heat, while agriculture and livestock sectors could face stress. Crops like maize and pulses may experience reduced yields, while fruits and vegetables could suffer from sunscald and premature drop. Livestock may show reduced feed intake and lower productivity.
The IMD has issued several precautionary guidelines for the public and suggested to avoid exposure to direct sunlight, especially between 10 AM and 3 PM, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and fluids’ wear light, loose cotton clothing and use protective gear such as hats or umbrellas, avoid alcohol, caffeinated, and carbonated drinks and prefer homemade rehydration drinks like lassi, lemon water, and ORS. Farmers are advised to continue irrigation and ensure proper shelter and ventilation for livestock.
The department has urged residents to remain cautious and follow advisories to minimize health risks during the ongoing hot and humid spell.
