Tripura shines in Bangkok as veteran athletes win multiple medals at World Masters Athletics Championship 2026
Tripura’s veteran athletes have scripted a remarkable success story at the World Masters Athletics Championship 2026 held in Bangkok, bringing pride to the state with an impressive medal haul.
The campaign began on a high note on April 19, when Ashis Kar clinched a gold medal in the 5000-meter race walk event on the very first day of the tournament. Continuing this winning momentum, Tripura’s athletes went on to secure more podium finishes in subsequent events.
According to the latest updates, Priyalal Saha won gold in the high jump (60+ category) by clearing a height of 1.55 meters. In the 55+ age category, Narayan Ghosh delivered an outstanding performance in the 100-meter sprint to win a silver medal, Ghosh also won gold and bronze in other athletic events.
Ashis Kar also added another medal to his tally by securing silver in the discus throw event, following his gold in the 5000-meter walk.
Notably, a four-member team from Tripura—comprising Priyalal Saha, Ashis Kar, Narayan Ghosh, and Malu Miah—traveled to Bangkok to participate in this prestigious international tournament. While they had previously won medals in countries like the Philippines and Nepal, their achievements on the global stage this time mark a significant milestone in their athletic careers.
The championship, which will continue until April 21, is expected to bring more medals for Tripura, with athletes like Malu Miah still in contention.
