Tripura to get national veterinary university

Tripura to get national veterinary university

Tripura is well set to have its maiden Central Veterinary University very soon. Purushottam  Rupala,  the Union Minister has already consented with the Members of Veterinary Council of India (VCI) in connection with finalizing the modalities for the ceremonial function of laying the foundation stone of the university in the first week of May 2023. The disclosure was made by Sudhangshu Das the Animal Resource Minister while attending 23rd World Veterinary Day organized by Tripura Veterinary Council at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, Agartala on April 29.

The event was also graced by B S Mishra the Principal Secretary, Dr K Shashi Kumar the Director, Dr Chintu Debbarma the President of Tripura Veterinary Council. “Compare and contrast in Veterinary treatment” and “Inclusive Emotions” were the central themes of the occasion. Sudhangshu Das the minister categorically remarked what makes this profession different is the emotions, feelings and the sensitiveness with which the doctors treat the animals. Continuing his briefing the minister said Agriculture and Animal Husbandry make significant contributions to our GDP.

Animal Husbandry, on the one hand reduces unemployment and on the other reduces the deficit of milk, eggs, meat and other requirements of routine life. He also stressed upon the need for ground evaluation of the situation and periodic review of the development activities.  He felt that a strict vigil is indispensable so that all the officials work with greater transparency, credibility and dedication for the realization of the goal ‘Ek Tripura Shrestha Tripura’ as envisioned by the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha. Addressing the occasion Dr. K Shashi Kumar the Director of the concerned department apprised that a total of 460 Veterinary doctors are registered with Tripura Veterinary Council playing a significant role in the rural development of the state. The Registrar of the Council Dr. Biplab Debbarma delivered his Welcome Speech. The event was attended by retired veterinary doctors, Veterinary Officers from various parts of the state including the interns. A seminar highlighting the significance of the day was also conducted in the second half of the day.
