Two Mizoram youths arrested with 1.21 lakh fake Indian currencies

In a special raid by Agartala city police on Tuesday, Indian fake currency of Rs. 1.21 lakh has been seized and two youths from neighbouring Mizoram state were also arrested.

In a special raid by Agartala city police on Tuesday, Indian fake currency of Rs. 1.21 lakh has been seized and two youths from neighbouring Mizoram state were also arrested.

Giving details of the operation, SDPO(Sadar) Ajoy Kumar Das based on intelligence inputs, the police personnel from East Agartala police station and including himself laid a trap at the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) Chandrapur in plain clothes on Tuesday evening.

Based on the information, the police apprehended two youths moving in the bus stand and recovered fake Indian currency of total rupees 1.21 lakh in 500 denominations under their possession.

Das after preliminary interrogation, police arrested both youths identified as Gokul Kishore Chakma and Rajesh Chakma of Mamit district of Mizoram, who arrived in the capital city to deliver their consignment.

He said that during preliminary interrogation both arrested youths had revealed that they had collected these fake currencies from Assam state and they are part of an international gang involved in the fake currency racket. Das said that on Wednesday, they will be produced before a local court with police remand appeals for further interrogation.
