We have a very strong bilateral relationship, says Maldives President Muizzu on ties shared with India
Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu has said his country shares a strong bilateral relationship with India.
His positive comments came months after the relationship between India and Maldives deteriorated over remarks made by Maldivian ministers over PM Narendra Modi's visit to Lakshadweep Island.
“I am planning to visit (India) as soon as possible…We have a very strong bilateral relationship,” Muizzu told ANI on sidelines of 79th United Nations General Assembly.
Muizzu said he is planning to visit Maldives as soon as possible.
If he visits India then it will be his second trip to the South Asian nation this year,
Muizzu had earlier visited India in June when he attended the swearing-in ceremony of PM Narendra Modi after returning to power for the third straight term.
Muizzu had changed the trend since he visited China and Turkiye after coming to power, unlike his predecessors who reached India on their first overseas visit.
Before coming to power, Muizzu's entire poll campaign was based on 'India Out'.
The removal of Indian troops was also part of the campaign.
The withdrawal of Indian troops was completed this year.
